Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty quickly became one of the most talked-about teen TV series. With its love triangle and beachy summer vibes, it had people hooked on the romance and addictive storyline. But as the series progressed, I slowly started to hate it.
The show begins with the main character, a girl named Belly, who spends the summer at her beach house, where her two childhood best friends—Conrad and Jeremiah—also live. After a noticeable glow-up, she starts getting attention from boys, including Conrad and Jeremiah, who also happen to be brothers.
Throughout the series, Belly finds herself constantly bouncing between relationships and situationships with both brothers. It gets frustrating to watch—she ends up leading them on and driving a wedge between them, all while damaging the strong friendships and family dynamics they once had.
There’s a huge debate among fans over who Belly should end up with: the brooding, mysterious Conrad or the fun-loving, cheerful Jeremiah. But honestly? I think she should end up alone. Belly manipulates both brothers and destroys the bonds they built since childhood. By the end of the show, I had completely lost any attachment I had to her character. In my opinion, she doesn’t deserve either of them.
