One small but seriously life-changing habit I’ve picked up lately? Getting dressed every morning—and I mean really getting dressed. Not just throwing on a hoodie and calling it a day, but actually picking out an outfit, doing my hair, and swiping on a little mascara. That tiny tube of mascara? Magic. It somehow makes me feel more awake, more put-together, and weirdly powerful—like I can handle whatever the day throws at me.
I started noticing this pattern: the days I stayed in pajamas and let my bed swallow me whole were the days I felt tired, unmotivated, and just… blah. My energy was low, my to-do list stayed untouched, and I’d end the day wondering where the time went. But the days I got up, changed out of my PJs, brushed my hair, and did even a minimal version of my morning routine? Total game-changers. I felt more alert, more confident, and way more productive—even if I wasn’t doing anything major.
The real “aha” moment came in my AP Seminar class. My teacher casually mentioned that while our presentations wouldn’t be graded on appearance, we should still “dress for success.” At first I thought, Okay, sure, I’ll throw on a nice top. But then I decided to go all in—straightened my hair, put on a cute outfit, and actually tried. And wow. Not only did I feel more prepared, but I owned that presentation. Something about looking the part made me feel like I belonged up there. I wasn’t just presenting—I was presenting, you know?
Now, I’m not saying clothes are everything, or that makeup equals self-worth. But there’s something really powerful about showing up for yourself. Taking those extra 10–15 minutes in the morning to feel like you can make all the difference.
So yeah, getting ready in the morning might seem small, but for me, it’s been a major glow-up—from the inside out.
